Learning About a Silent Auction

Surely you have heard of silent auction before but perhaps you are still not exactly sure of what it is. Basically a silent auction is the term used to describe the bidding process of written bids which can be raised in writing. This is different from your typical auction at which people would be orally telling their bids.

You have to make sure that you are aware of how to bid at a silent auction before attending to one, because there are certain rules and regulations that need to be followed.

The Details

A silent auction is a fundraising event that is frequently used at charity events. There are various silent auction ideas that one may run with, and these auctions are preferred because they are silent and so they do not detract from the entertainment provided at the main event.

Usually a silent auction will be conducted by setting up tables or displays of items or services upon which people are able to bid. There are definitely some advantages to a silent auction, besides the fact that it is almost completely quiet. For one, because when the auction is conducted for a charity which is most of the time, the charity does not have to pay the auctioneer.

However there are also certain drawbacks to the silent auctions, such as the fact that items may generate lower bids because people have more time to consider the purchase. Whereas at a regular auction many people find that they buy on impulse and usually end up spending much more than they would have otherwise, they do not feel the need to hurry at the silent auctions so as a result they can think more about what they want to pay for an item before going through with it.

Setting up silent auctions is quite easy, and so whether you are looking to do it for charity purposes or some other event, you can do it with the help of some family and friends or even business associates.

Just make sure that you are aware of all the rules before going through and trying to have your own silent auctions, because there are a few that need to be followed here and the last thing you want is to get your auction all set up only to find out that you missed something or something is out of place. There is help out there if you need it.
