Lots of people are afraid of dogs. The fear is quite often triggered when we’re young. Possibly you were happily playing with a dog and suddenly there were bare teeth and loud barks. If that had happened when you were older and wiser, no problem, you’d likely not have an issue. But when you’re younger, almost instantly your mind is trained to think that dogs are not as nice as you thought they were.
The problem is that - despite what you may remember from school - we actually learn quite fast, this impression sticks with us. Whether or not we can’t work out why when we think about it rationally.
So is there anything you can do to reduce your phobia of dogs? Deep down, most dogs would rather be your friend and be fed dog treats every now and then.
You could try and rationalize that “dogs are my friends” but you and I both know that you won’t actually believe yourself. In particular as there’s almost certainly a very loud voice in your head yelling (in true pantomime fashion) “oh no they aren’t!”
The next step is to get a little bit closer to dogs so you can see them but there is zero chance that you’ll actually be nose to nose or or encounter it jumping onto you and slobber all over your face. Pictures work well for this stage. Unless you’re truly paranoid, you’re certain that a picture is really just some ink on a page or pixels on a PC monitor. Most people, even if their initial reaction is “no way”, get on OK with this stage and you’ll likely notice your mind getting slightly more relaxed at the idea of coming face to face with a dog in real life.
But all this is slow progress and can take what seems like forever. Plus going the slow route won’t work if your children absolutely must have a dog and there’s no way you can talk them out of it?
A much faster way to combat things like a fear of dogs|being afraid of dogs is by using hypnosis. Hypnosis works unobtrusively in the background. And unless you tell them, no-one need ever know you’re using hypnosis since you can get an instant MP3 download of hypnosis for dog phobia and listen to it and just let your fear disappear.
